Jared Cannonier is the current #3 ranked UFC middleweight and has challenged for the title before when he faced Israel Adesanya in July this year. However, the American began his MMA journey back in 2011, currently boasting an MMA record of 15-6. He has fought in three different weight categories in the UFC: heavyweight, light-heavyweight, and middleweight.
At the beginning of his career, he fought scarcely over a period of five years, amassing a record of 7-0. From humble beginnings in Alaska, he secured a contract with the UFC in 2014 and booked his debut fight for 2015. He made his debut as a heavyweight and lost his very first fight against Shawn Jordan at UFC 182. After winning his second fight, he decided to move down in weight.
He made his light-heavyweight debut against Ion Cutelaba and won. In his next fight, he faced Glover Teixeira and lost to the Brazilian, who went on to become one of the oldest champions in UFC history.
Cannonier has faced the best fighters in every division he has moved to. He followed this trend when he made his move to the middleweight division.
He fought the likes of Anderson Silva, Kelvin Gastelum, Israel Adesanya, and Robert Whittaker. He is currently looking to secure another title shot.
Jan Blachowicz gives his prediction for Jared Cannonier vs. Sean Strickland
Jared Cannonier and Sean Strickland will be giving UFC fans, quite possibly, their last fight of 2022. The pair are set to headline UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Strickland on December 17 at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ahead of the fight, ‘The Killa Gorilla’s’ former opponent, Jan Blachowicz, gave his predictions for the fight in an interview with James Lynch:
“Cannonier is knockout punch power. In this division, he just finds himself, you know? He’s like one of the best over there. Strickland, he’s tough and crazy, you know – nothing more, nothing more special.”
Jared Cannonier is looking to get another shot at the title after losing his first-ever title fight against Israel Adesanya in July this year. He will look to make his way back to the top and challenge the winner of Adesanya vs. Pereira 2.
