Black Panther: Wakanda Forever unmasks Marvel Studios’ newest Black Panther in a new poster.
Shared on Twitter, the poster unveils Letitia Wright’s Shuri as the newest hero to take on the Black Panther mantle. Shuri took up the identity of the Black Panther Wakanda Forever following the death of King T’Challa, who was played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the late Chadwick Boseman.
Wright has portrayed Shuri, the younger sister of Boseman’s King T’Challa/Black Panther, in the MCU since 2018’s Black Panther. The first teaser trailer for Wakanda Forever introduced Tenoch Huerta as Namor the Sub-Mariner, Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart and also teased a new hero to take up the Black Panther mantle. The identity of the new Black Panther remained unknown until the film’s release in theaters, although there was speculation that Wright would be the one under the mask. Wright was asked about her potential new role in the MCU during San Diego Comic-Con 2022. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said. “But November 11, you get your ticket.”
A New Black Panther Enters the MCU
In a previous interview, Wright revealed that she had discussed portraying the titular hero early in her Marvel career with director Ryan Coogler and Boseman. “I had a chat about it with Ryan and Chad when we were making Black Pantherand we touched on it briefly,” she said when asked whether Shuri would take on the mantle of Black Panther, as the character has in Marvel Comics. “When I realized I was playing Shuri, it was something that I really looked forward to .”
Prior to the film’s release, the first full look at the new design for the Black Panther suit was revealed via Wakanda Forever merchandise, including a Funko! Pop and a Marvel Legends figure. Previously, only part of the black-and-gold suit was shown Wakanda Forever‘s first teaser, while a more complete look was shown in the sequel’s full trailer. While the identity of the hero remains unconfirmed, the mask of the costume for both figures exactly matched the face paint design worn by Shuri in the MCU.
