UFC fighter Tyler Jeffrey Dillashaw is officially retiring from the sport of MMA.

TJ, as he is more commonly known, is a former two-time UFC Bantamweight champion.

As reported by MMA FightingDillashaw made the decision to retire after he was forced to undergo surgery to repair his damaged shoulder.

Injured before his last fight

He damaged his shoulder while preparing to face Aljamain Sterling at UFC 280 for the Bantamweight title. As reported by BleacherReport, Sterling won the fight via a second-round TKO. Dillashaw’s shoulder popped out of the socket in the first minute of the fight.

He tried to fight with one arm but was severely outclassed. His corner managed to pop his shoulder back into place after the first round, but it popped out again in the second and Sterling punished him as a result.

A lengthy recovery period

The surgery is expected to keep him out of action for at least a year. He could possibly require further surgery in the future as well. With an uncertain period ahead of him, Dillashaw opted to notify the UFC that he would be retiring.

One of the greatest Bantamweights

Dillashaw will go down as one of the greatest Bantamweights to have ever set foot in the Octagon. He had two separate title reigns and ends his career with a record of 17 wins and just five losses.
