Oban MMA have been ringing the changes over the past few months and are coming out fighting.

Oban MMA members make good use of their new cage.

The team are now affiliated with Scotland’s top club – Bathgate-based Higher Level MMA.

Over the past decade Higher Level head coach James Doolan has been helping the Oban club by traveling up for seminars and keeping an eye on the progress of students.

Other clubs in this affiliation include Submission Factory MMA, run by Craig Macintosh and Gary Priestly. Oban coach, Coogie Potter has been traveling down to learn from Craig and Gary extensively over the last year and this has created a close bond between the clubs.

Craig, who is one of the country’s most highly rated grapplers and a pro MMA fighter, will now be Oban’s main head coach and will be coming to take a class / seminar on the first Tuesday of every month from June onwards.

‘Having a regular professional full-time coach coming up monthly to bring the club forward is a huge step for our club,’ said Coogie.

‘His knowledge and experience will be invaluable in bringing students to the next level in training.’

Sponsorship from Scottish Sea Farms and Gregor Morawski the Oban club has also invested in new equipment including Thai pads and a cage for the hall.
