The New York Yankees announced a shocking addition to their front office on Tuesday.
The Yankees announced that Brian Sabean, who led the San Francisco Giants to three World Series championships as the team’s general from 2010-2014, would join New York’s front office. Specifically, the Yankees revealed that they appointed Sabean as an Executive Advisor to General Manager and Senior Vice President Brian Cashman.
“The New York Yankees today announced that they have appointed Brian Sabean as Executive Advisor to Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Cashman,” the team tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

Sabean had served as a scout for the Giants since 2019 after he relinquished his duties in 2018. Believe it or not, this is not the first time that Sabean has worked for the Yankees. He began his MLB career as a scout for the team in the 1980s. He became their VP of Player Development/Scouting in 1990 and was responsible for signing legendary players like Andy Pettitte, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera, among others.
Sabean seemed very eager after the announcement. Reporter Brendan Kuty of NJ.Com quoted Sabean saying, “I’m all in. I’ll do anything to help the Yankees win a World Series.”

Reactions came from around baseball after the announcement was made.
The San Francisco Giants Thank you Sabean for his tremendous contributions to the team.

KNBR’s Marty Lurie called it an “excellent move” for the esteemed baseball executive.
Excellent move for Brian Sabean. A future Hall of Famer for what he accomplished with the Giants. He now lands in a spot he is familiar with and a front office that will listen to his long time experience in baseball when making decisions. Well done Brian!

One Yankee fan already is clearly on board, as they believe Sabean “already cares a lot more than Cash does about the Yankees winning.”
Brian Sabean clearly already cares a lot more than Cash does about the #Yankees winning. Cash is more focused on the “process” than the “results” https://t.co/hMn24zpF5j

Longtime San Francisco radio voice Damon Bruce said it was a shame that both Sabean and Bruce Bochy are back in baseball, but not with the Giants.
Bruce Bochy & Brian Sabean are both back in baseball. Neither of them in San Francisco, and that’s a shame. https://t.co/SphSW3VR3h
