One loss on Christmas Eve with a backup quarterback and suddenly the Eagles are a candidate to be one-and-done in the playoffs.
At least according to NFL analysts Nick Wright and Dan Sileo, they are. And Eagles fans get excoriated for overacting.
That certainly seems to be what Wright and Sileo are doing. Never mind that it took until Week 15 for the Eagles to lose for just the second time.
Suddenly, what they did for the first three months of the season doesn’t count for Wright and Sileo.
At least there is some common sense being displayed in the ticket marketplace.
The Eagles have one of the highest prices for a Super Bowl ticket on the reservation market.
The reservation market is a way for a fan to reserve a ticket to see a specific team in any round of the playoffs. Right now, there’s no way for you to buy an Eagles Super Bowl ticket. The reservation market allows you to do so – think of it as a futures contract.
Currently, you can go to the site and reserve an Eagles Super Bowl ticket in the lower-level endzone seating section for $1,234. As the regular season wraps up and the playoffs creep closer on the horizon, this $1,234 will move based on the Eagles’ performance.
In Week 1 of the regular season, the cost for the exact same reservation was only $344 since their odds of making the Super Bowl were significantly lower. We had some fans purchase pre-season at this lower price point, and they have the option to either:
A) Hold onto their reservation and hope the Eagles make the Super Bowl
OR
B) Post their reservation back on the marketplace to try to sell to another fan and turn a profit
If the Eagles do not make the Super Bowl, the user forfeits the $1,234 that he/she spent on the reservation.
However, if they do make the Super Bowl, the fan now has the option to purchase a Super Bowl ticket in the Lower Level Endzone for the agreed-upon at-purchase price of $3,500. We expect the ticket price in that section to exceed $6,000 on the open market. If we take the user who purchased at $344 for example, his/her all-in for this ticket would be $3,844 – a savings of 36% to see the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
