Andre Galvao‘s 2022 continues to improve as the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend was recently inducted into the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Hall of Fame.
“It is an honor to be part of the Jiu-Jitsu Hall Of Fame. In particular, it means so much to be entering the Hall with so many legends of the sport. I’ll never forget the battles I had against many of them. Those wars taught me big lessons so I could be here today, ”wrote Galvao on Instagram.
“Since I started training in 1995 – everything I passed – to all the way here today, I realize I’ve come a long way from a small town in Sao Paulo – Brazil.”
A long way may be an understatement as one of the all-time greats on the mats.

The Brazilian legend is also leaving a legacy with his teachings. Galvao’s students at Atos BJJ have been lighting up the global scene in recent years, including Kade and Tye Ruotolo. The Ruotolo Brothers recently made their debut in ONE Championship with grappling wins over Shinya Aoki and Garry Tonon.
Galvao himself is back on the global stage. He competed against Reinier De Ridder at ONE X in a submission grappling match that went to a draw. However, the BJJ Hall of Famer is also set to return to mixed martial arts action within the organization as well.
The honor of the induction allowed Galvao to thank those who helped him along the way.
“I’d like to thank God for this amazing moment in my life, thank my wife for being such an incredible supporter, my coaches, trainers and real friends I had along the way who always believed and never gave up on me,” he said. Galvao.
“Also, I would like to thank all my former teammates, family, and fans. Thank you for everything! ”
“No one gets here without pain. Jiu-Jitsu is like life. Thank you for making all of my dreams come true. Thank you, Lord! ”
The honor and distinction was a foregone conclusion. Galvao’s place in BJJ history has already been written, although he is still adding accolades to his already impressive resume.
